Four Days to Live, One Reason to Hope
A man was once diagnosed with a rare and deadly illness. The doctors gave him a grim prognosis — he had only four days left to live. Desperate and frightened, he rushed to speak with the Chazon Ish, seeking hope and guidance.
Upon hearing the man's story, the Chazon Ish didn’t respond with medical advice or despair. Instead, he asked gently, “Tell me, what did Hashem create on the first day of creation?”
The man, a bit puzzled, answered.
“And what about the second day?” the Chazon Ish continued.
Again, the man responded.
This continued for all four days of creation — the Chazon Ish asking, and the man answering what Hashem had created on each day.
Then the Chazon Ish looked at him and said with calm conviction, “If Hashem could create so much in just one day, surely He can also create a cure for your illness in that same amount of time.”
Amazingly, four days later, penicillin was officially approved for public use — and it turned out to be the exact treatment the man needed. His life was saved.
